What is Alpha for ESL?
Alpha ESL is a course for adults who are learning English at an intermediate level. The content for Alpha ESL is similar to the standard Alpha course (click here for more information on the Alpha course). Alpha ESL is structured to give students the opportunity to hear, understand and practice speaking various English words and phrases found in each lesson. Students will also learn grammar through listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Any adult can join our Alpha ESL course. The Alpha Course focuses on the Christian faith, but you do not have to be a Christian to attend. You do not have to go to a church. There will be no pressure to change what you believe, but you will find out what Christians believe.
Alpha ESL is provided at no cost. All material is presented by trained English teachers. Alpha ESL provides an opportunity to meet other people in the community, learn about local culture and be introduced to the basics of the Christian faith.
Each evening starts at 18:45 with finger food where guests have the opportunity to get to know each other and meet new friends. Practicing English words and phrases with each other during this time is a fun activity that is encouraged. The in-class session follows at 19:00, ending at 20:50.
The next Alpha ESL course will begin with at 6:45 PM on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Smythe Street Cathedral, 913 Smythe Street Fredericton. The course will be held each Wednesday night and the last evening is June 6. You are welcome to attend the first night on April 18th and try Alpha ESL, with no obligation to continue.
